Behind the Design

HarrisonKornberg fosters a diverse workplace with a focus on the professional growth and welfare of our staff.

Our talented staff brings a true love of the craft of designing to each of our projects. Our clients, and our projects, really benefit from this kind of heartfelt effort that our team brings to the table.

Ben Sauceda, AIA, CDT

Several times a year we survey our team members to better understand what we are doing well, and how we can improve. We implement team-building activities including an annual firm retreat, year-round celebrations of personnel accomplishments, and monthly staff events including firm happy hours, sporting leagues, community service projects, industry competitions, and more.

We encourage continuous education and provide opportunities to learn and grow in and out of the office. “Ask Me Anything” events allow staff to pick the brains of firm leadership on topics ranging from business goals to favorite animals. Weekly “Donuts and Details” meetings provide a space for staff to present to each other about current projects, industry standards, business development, and any other topics that light a fire within!

Environmental Stewardship

Given the significant resources used by buildings, we consider it our duty to design sustainably.

We have experience designing LEED-certified facilities and have multiple LEED Accredited Professionals on staff. Even when clients don’t pursue official certification, we work with them to establish, practical and affordable, sustainable solutions.

We are proud to have been an early adopter of the AIA 2030 challenge, an initiative that calls for a 50% reduction in energy use in buildings.

Our firm culture promotes sharing ideas, with regular discussions on topics of environmental concern and sustainability. Staff are encouraged to attend regular conferences, lectures and presentations in the field of sustainability, and to pursue and obtain relevant certifications and accreditations.

We encourage sustainable work practices: working virtually, recycling, carpooling, purchasing green products, re-purposing architectural samples, etc.

Giving Back

Community and stakeholder engagement is a critical part of our design process, and we are passionate about giving back to the communities in which we work and live.

HarrisonKornberg’s Office Culture Team plans community service events and projects throughout the year. Some of our previous efforts include gardening for the Hermann Park Conservancy, making sandwiches and bagging lunches for Kids Meals Inc., natural disaster relief efforts, working at the Houston Food Bank warehouse, and handmaking greeting cards for “The Holiday Project”. We encourage staff to add to on our ongoing list of diverse causes and organizations to work with.
