HarrisonKornberg was selected to program and design a new, freestanding repository to house the archival records of the County Clerk of Montgomery County, Texas.

The project scope required site validation, programming and design services, including shelving and furniture selections. The programmed spaces include an entry/reception space, material processing room with decontamination equipment, repository storage space with fixed and mobile shelving, loading area, viewing and office spaces. The building also houses a new data center to support the County’s IT infrastructure.

The facility is a hardened structure built to withstand tornados and other extreme weather conditions while maintaining strict temperature and humidity requirements to align with the Texas State Library Records Standards, Schedule F, for long-term storage. Materials to be stored include deed records, birth and death records, court filings and other items of County business dating from the early 1800s. Shelving consists of 6-foot-tall mobile racks, with specialty components to contain volumes of over-sized bound records.
